Citysurfing takes data protection and people's privacy very seriously and we are committed to complying with international data protection laws. This data policy describes the information we collect and process to support our services.
What kinds of information do we collect?
To provide the Citysurfing services, we must process information about you. The types of information we collect are solely limited to our mission of helping travelers and local hosts around the world connect using our platform. You can access, modify, and delete your personal information by visiting your Account Settings.
Data we collect during signup
Your first and last name. During sign up, we collect your first and last name to make it easier to identify who you are. This allows the Citysurfing admin team to secure and protect your account. To protect your privacy, platform users are only able to view your first name until you either provide that information to them or they make a confirmed booking.
Your email address. During signup, we collect your email address. Your email address and secret password are used by you to access and navigate our platform.
Citysurfing also uses your email address to communicate automated messages for the following platform functions:
Data we collect after signup
An image of you. When you create a profile and listing page, you are asked to add a recent photo of yourself. This makes it easier for both travelers and local hosts to identify each other at the onset of their appointments.
Your location. We ask that you provide your location (City/Country -or- City/Area). Before travelers and local hosts can determine if they will meet, they will need to know where they are located in proximity to each other. When you update your location, you make it easier for people to connect with you when they use our platform.
Languages You Speak. Our platform makes it easy for people that speak different languages to connect with local hosts that also speak that language. In order to create a host listing, you will need to let our users know what languages you know so that others might book you as a host.
Personal description. We allow our users to add a personal description to their profile page. A description allows users to get a better understanding of who you are and the things you like to do. This improves the user experience for both travelers and local hosts because it makes it easier for both travelers and hosts to connect with people that share similar interests.
Optional Data Collected
To create an easy way for the admin to contact you, we allow all members to add optional data contact details, which include your postal address, and telephone number.
Information from third party platforms
Third party partners receive your data when you visit or register or make a payment via their platforms. We require each of these partners to have lawful rights to collect, use and share your data before providing any data to us. These partners must adhere to strict confidentiality obligations in a way that is consistent with this Data Policy and the agreements we enter into with them.
On the Citysurfing registration page, all members have an option of using Facebook, and Google sign up to quickly become a registered member.
Google Sign-In is a secure authentication system that reduces the burden of login for our users, by enabling them to sign in with their Google Account—the same account they already use with Gmail, Play, Google+, and other Google services. You can review Google’s Data Policy here.
Citysurfing does not process payments on our platform. To protect your privacy and insure your payment is secure, we use Stripe; an established third party processor.
Stripe allows individuals and businesses to receive payments over the internet. Stripe provides the technical, fraud prevention, and banking infrastructure for all Citysurfing members. Stripe’s Privacy & Data Policy here.
Data Usage & Protection
We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this data protection policy.
We will not otherwise transfer or disclose your data except with your consent, where we are required or permitted to do so by law, or to any successors in title to our business.
All data about you that we store is stored on our secure servers. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of our site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential and you must not share it with anyone.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our websites or web shop; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorized access.
Changes to our data protection statement
Any changes we may make to our data protection statement in the future will be posted on this page. Please check back frequently to see any updates or changes.
