Ioannina, is located next to the lake Pamvotis and has a population of 120,000 inhabitants. The first signs of human activity in the area date back to the Paleolithic era (38,000 years ago). This has been proven by the stone tools found in the Cave of Kastritsa. The city was founded in 528 A.D. by the Byzantine emperor Justinian. Ostensive points of interest are Ancient Theater of Dodoni (1st Ancient Theater of Greece), Ioannina castle, lake Pamvotis and the island, Perama cave, Vrellis museum of Greek history (wax effigies), Ligiades village, monasteries of Tsouka, Ntourachani, Kastrista, and more.
